After a year of preparation, CATAWOL Records is proud to announce Real Figures Don’t F.O.L.D: a Song Contest beginning on May 1st.
It marks the launch of a landmark event designed to raise awareness of adult bullying in hobby spaces, while supporting charities focused on bullying and mental health.
The Contest was created in response to the continued attacks faced by the MODE Family, following the departure of their leader, The Sigfig, and his partner, Val, both of whom were subjected to relentless abuse from the F.O.L.D.
In the wake of that turmoil, the remaining members of the MODE Family worked closely with CATAWOL Records to launch Real Figures Don’t F.O.L.D.
The Contest was inspired by the discovery of lyrics to a song the Sigfig had once attempted to write. What began as a moment of reflection has grown into a bold, public campaign for dignity, remembrance, and change.
An open call was issued to Acts signed with CATAWOL Records, and from numerous submissions, 32 Songs were selected to take part in the first event of its kind.
The Contest promises a powerful showcase of music, message, and community support, bringing together a wide range of Acts in a shared effort to confront harmful behaviour and amplify the voices of those affected by it.
A Personal Mission for the MODE Family
The remaining members of the MODE Family have each spoken about what the Contest means to them, offering a moving glimpse into the project's purpose.
EvilMode said:
This Contest is personal. It is a chance to stand up, speak out, and make sure the F.O.L.D. cannot hide behind silence. We are here because [the Sigfig and Val] deserved better, and because no one should have to endure this kind of treatment in any space they love.
B. Bee expressed,
This is so much more than a contest. It’s our way to remember Val and the Sigfig, to keep going when things feel heavy, and to turn pain into something that can help others.
WhiteMode said:
We have all had to hold things together since we lost the Sigfig and Val, and this Contest gives us a way to do that with purpose. It is about support, responsibility, and making sure the right message reaches the right people.
Rille stated,
I believe something good can come from this. I hope the Contest helps people feel less alone, and maybe even bring [the Sigfig and Val] back to us in some way.
Honouring The Sigfig’s Memory Through Music
Those close to the project say the Sigfig had often remarked that he should have become a musician: a detail that now carries added weight as the Contest begins.
For the MODE Family, this initiative is not only about exposing the F.O.L.D.’s ulterior motives. It is also about honouring the Sigfig’s memory through a creative stand against bullying, and a renewed commitment to mental health awareness.
CATAWOL Records invites fans, supporters, and members of the wider community to follow the Contest as it unfolds, and to support its charitable mission. With the first round of music set to arrive on May 1st, the stage is now set for a powerful, meaningful celebration of resilience and solidarity.
